Gove District Hospital, located in
Nhulunbuy, provides acute care for 16,000 people in the East
Arnhem region. Our catchment area covers 6,400 square kilometres, from
Milingimbi in the west to
Groote Eylandt in the south east.
Most of our patients live in one of 12
main East Arnhem communities, or outlying small Aboriginal
homelands on the mainland or nearby islands.
The hospital employs 10 doctors, 45
nurses and a variety of allied health workers who thrive on the unique
opportunity to work closely with Aboriginal people.
We provide diagnostic and acute care for
both inpatients and outpatients. Our hospital has 30 beds
and is well equipped to provide a high standard of care to residents of
Nhulunbuy and the region.
Our maternal service is mid-wifery run
with obstetric back-up close at hand and has recently won several national
awards.

Our hospital doctors provide routine medical
visits to remote Aboriginal communities and assist
with the emergency aerial evacuation of clients
from these communities. Support services at the
hospital include radiography, pharmacy,
physiotherapy, pathology, occupational therapy,
speech therapy and dietetics.
Gove District Hospital provides visiting specialist
medical services including nephrology, cardiology,
surgery, paediatrics,
ENT, gynaecology, psychiatric, dental surgery and
ophthalmology.
