Gove District Hospital is a busy 30 bed general hospital located in Nhulunbuy on the picturesque wilderness coastline of northeast Arnhem Land. The hospital provides Medical, Surgical, Paediatric, Obstetric and Accident and Emergency services to the mining town of Nhulunbuy and the Aboriginal communities of northeast Arnhem Land.

The hospital employs about 40 nurses who thrive on the unique opportunity to work closely with Aboriginal people, particularly in the areas of accident and emergency services, and paediatrics.

We provide diagnostic and therapeutic services for both inpatients and outpatients and have a strong focus on health promotion. Our hospital has 30 beds and is well equipped not only to provide the best possible care for our patient and support the well being of our staff.

Our hospital doctors provide routine medical visits to the remote communities and assist with the emergency aerial evacuation of clients from these communities. Support services at the hospital include radiography, pharmacy, physiotherapy, pathology, occupational therapy, speech therapy and dietetics.

We take pride in caring for the special needs of our Aboriginal patients, employing an Aboriginal Interpreter, Aboriginal Liaison Officer and Aboriginal Health Worker

Our hospital staff work closely with local GPs and the Miwatj Aboriginal Corporation to share resources and knowledge, ensuring we provide the best possible care to the communities we serve. A representative of the Miwatj sits on the Gove District Hospital Board.

Gove District Hospital provides visiting specialist medical services including physicians, surgeons, paediatricians, ENT specialists, gynaecologists and ophthalmologists.

In addition to salaries amongst the highest in Australia, up to seven weeks annual leave and salary sacrificing options are available. We offer many other attractive conditions and benefits such as:

The equivalent of one airfare to Darwin for each six months of service plus two days travel allowance for each airfare

Professional development allowance after one year of service, commencing with$300/year and increasing $600/year after 5 years of service

Post-graduate allowance for formal qualifications such as midwifery, Accident & Emergency, occupational therapy and critical care.

We also provide a range of very affordable accommodation options for our nurses, starting from $35/week. You can chose from rooms in the hospital quarters, flats, single story units and houses provided by NT Housing.

The hospital’s Workforce Development Unit offers many training and education programs including a First Year Graduate Program for tertiary trained nurses. All nurses have access to a comprehensive in-service education program, with courses in midwifery, orthopaedic nursing, neonatal nursing, paediatrics, some aspects of critical care, advanced obstetric life support and advanced cardiac life support.
